I recently started yoga, and I absolutely love it. I find myself sitting up straighter, feeling more attractive, and seem to be more relaxed lately. It was surprisingly easy to get into; all I did was buy a DVD, a mat, and yoga pants. I do the DVD for about 30 minutes (I’ll eventually build up to the 50 minute routine, but want to go slow at first), and I feel refreshed and energized afterwards. Yoga is awesome!
Happy New Year! Today marks a day of new beginnings, plans for the coming year, and New Year’s Resolutions for many folks. I get excited when I think about my New Year’s Resolutions, since it gives me some extra motivation to tackle things I’ve put on the back burner throughout the year. However, as much as I enjoy making New Year’s Resolutions, I often have a hard time sticking to them.
I love having people over. One thing I try and remember is that being a good host is about so much more than mini-quiches, a spotless house, or having some amazing craft for all of the kids to do. Being a good host is about making people feel comfortable in your house.
We’ve all heard of “helicopter parents.” Sometimes our definitions vary, but in general they are the parents who go overboard when it comes to everything related to parenting. Of course it starts out innocently enough, because we all want what is best for our kids. However, sometimes it can be taken to an extreme, which ends up doing more harm than good.
I love that everywhere I go, people comment on how cool my kids are. Ok, they don’t exactly say the word “cool,” but that’s more or less the idea. My two year old will march into Costco wearing bright pink cowgirl boots, and my four year old loves to chat up little old ladies and tell them all about how big she is. My girls are awesome! They are confident and secure in who they are, and it doesn’t take much to make them happy.
Most challenges that today’s mom faces are obvious. We immediately think about the big stuff – finances, health, safety, etc. There are many issues and concerns that we have as parents, but there is one challenge we face that is extremely common – but seldom talked about. It’s something that most of us don’t even [...]
Being a mom is hard work, isn’t it? There are so many responsibilities, choices, and expectations. Something that has really hit home with me over the past few years is the importance of having friends who are encouraging, uplifting, and supportive – and being that friend in return.
Have you ever considered hiring a “mother’s helper?”
If you have not heard of this sort of help before, I’ll fill you in. A mother’s helper is usually a pre-teen girl who comes over to your house to help out with the kids. She can be an extra set of eyes, ears, and hands [...]
Ah, it starts slowly, doesn’t it? You used to get up, shower, dress for work and then head out the door. A coworker would compliment your shoes, a man at lunch would glance over and then pretend he wasn’t just checking you out, and in general you felt like you had it together.
And [...]
As moms, we are always on the go. We hit the ground running - fix the kids’ breakfast, get them dressed, throw in a load of laundry, play with Legos, change a diaper, unload the dishwasher, read them a book, answer the phone, switch the laundry… and this is all before noon! It’s exhausting just [...]
